Just a bit from my published book, a taste to whet the whistle

In the final days of earth it was the children who were the salvation of everyone…

All around was destruction. I tried to make sense of the world I lived in. How had it come to be that we allowed it to come to this? Didn’t we know what we were doing? The ancient stories told of the coming of special children who would save all of mankind. It clearly described how they would save humanity and the planet. Then why was there so much death? Why was the planet still in chaos? Why had we failed?

Around 150 years ago mankind had reached a turning point. Weapons that could destroy the world a hundred times over had been created. There seemed no end to the ways mankind had devised to destroy itself. It was at this point that God decided to take matters into His own hands. He introduced a new evolution of mankind designed to pull it back from the brink of destruction.

Female angels were sent to procreate with male humans. Their offspring were always female. Traditionally the more nurturing gender. They were born with certain angelic powers to help accomplish their goals.

But the human condition has its flaws. And when you mix angelic devotion and human ego sometimes you get self-righteous indignation. The Sisterhood, born to help humanity pull itself back from the brink of destroying itself, were suppose to help change mankind into a more peaceful species.

And so the era of the Sisterhood took a more sinister turn. The half human half angelic daughters now ruled instead of helped. The Sisterhood believed they were still helping mankind. By ruling them instead of helping them they controlled how mankind would evolve.

But it wasn’t what God had intended. And so, in His infinite wisdom, He who watched from afar decided the Sisterhood needed to be stopped. This time He commanded male angels to descend and lie with female humans. Their only male children had the task of eliminating the Sisterhood, allowing mankind to be free of their control.

The Brotherhood possessed the gifts necessary to destroy the Sisterhood. At first the Sisterhood had no idea what the Brotherhood had been sent to do. By the time they figured out the Brotherhood’s purpose it was too late. The Brotherhood had grown up and became a fighting force the Sisterhood could not easily defeat. A war began that had the Sisterhood fighting to stay alive while the Brotherhood did everything in their power destroy them. Mankind became caught in the middle.

Humans became the fodder for both sides. Sisters surrounded themselves with loyal humans to protect themselves from Brother attacks. Brothers killed humans that helped Sisters. The world was thrown into a chaos it didn’t know how to remove itself from. All mankind could do was try to stay out of the way and stay alive.

And through it all our Divine Creator watched to see how this war would end. Religion, as it once was, no longer existed. Humans now collectively prayed to a god they hoped would end the war and release them from both sides. Prayers that went unanswered. We were all left to fend as best we could for ourselves. God, it seemed, had decided to watch and wait, to see who won the battle for humanity, the planet, and sometimes it seemed, our very souls.

About ynnarie

Lynn Salisbury grew up in the rural town of McGrath, Minnesota. After graduating from McGregor High School in the mid 1980’s, she moved to the Twin Cities. Lynn spent her 20’s and 30’s working like the average person, never imagining the calling that awaited her. But those two decades of working, learning, growing, led to the day a friend challenged Lynn to write. Lynn met that challenge and never looked back. Now she draws from her life’s experiences and creative mind to weave stories. Stories about different worlds, different lives, different perspectives. If you ask her about her life, Lynn will tell you it’s been rather simple and sometimes boring. But if you dig a little deeper you will find that it’s been a bit more exciting than that. Lynn has done everything from designing clothes ranging from prom and wedding dresses to drag queen attire and everything in-between, became a registered, ordained Pagan minister in the state of Minnesota, to creating a group, on a social media site, of fans devoted to her favorite football team that has more members than most medium sized towns. Lynn still lives in the Twin Cities area, enjoying the changing seasons, spending time with family, working, and writing. She will admit she hasn’t found her genre niche yet, and she secretly hopes she never does, leaving the possibilities wide open for any type of story that formulates in her head, mixed with a bit of muse inspiration, to spill out into the written word. She writes what she would want to read, having taken to heart a piece of advice she once heard. And she feels blessed and grateful for the chance to share her stories with the world. As the mother of three amazing, beautiful and strong daughters, Lynn knows that even when the world seems the darkest, they are her light. And she never forgets what an honor and privilege it is to be their mother. “If you haven’t had your ‘a-ha’ moment today, you haven’t been paying attention.” – Lynn Salisbury
